Hancock Fiscal Court holds November day meeting

By Jennifer Wimmer
The Hancock County Fiscal Court met Monday, Nov. 10, for a brief day meeting. Officials reported a light agenda this month, with no major announcements from any department.
Animal shelter report
The Hancock County Animal Shelter was recognized this year by the Best Friends Network for maintaining its no-kill status and exceeding a 90 percent save rate. The small shelter operates near full capacity year-round, and staff members work diligently to find permanent homes for every dog in their care.
Animal Control Director Ronnie York said dogs are available for adoption on an ongoing basis. He encouraged residents to volunteer by walking dogs or playing with them in the shelter yard, a good way to get exercise, support staff and make a new furry friend. Volunteers are especially needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Those available only on Mondays or Fridays are asked to call ahead before visiting to volunteer.
The shelter is at 305 Gene Hayden Road in Lewisport. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The phone number is 270-927-8544, and the email address is [email protected]. Updates are also shared on the Shelter of Hancock Co KY and Friends of Hancock County Animal Shelter Facebook pages.

Medicare’s annual open enrollment period for prescription drug coverage runs through Dec. 7. Seniors needing help creating an account on Medicare.gov may use the center’s laptops, with staff available to help set them up.
On Friday, Dec. 12, plans are in the works for seniors to travel to Louisville for Lights Under Louisville, a holiday light show held each year in the Louisville Mega Cavern featuring more than seven million lights illuminating over 100 acres of underground cavern space.
