Attractions Hair Design has new ownership and a new name, now operating as Attractions Salon & Spa under Ricky and April Johnson.
The Johnsons purchased the business from longtime owner April Bryant, who continues to work as a stylist. They are preparing for a grand reopening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13.
The updated space will feature promotional pricing on select services during the event, along with local vendors, food trucks, giveaways and family-friendly offerings such as children’s manicures.
An infrared sauna has been installed at the salon, with appointments available beginning June 8. Discounted pricing for the sauna will be offered during the reopening, and informational materials about potential wellness benefits will be available for customers to read at the salon and to take home.
The business offers a range of services, including hair care, nail services, spray tanning, tanning beds and esthetic services, with additional staff expected to join in the coming weeks. Two employees are licensed in spray tanning.
Spray tan sessions include single sessions and monthly packages, using Norvell products, a leading brand in the industry. The Johnsons described it as a high-quality option that produces consistent color. Pricing and add-ons are listed on the salon’s Facebook page.
Ricky Johnson said Bryant, who has operated the salon for more than 30 years, was ready to step away from the business side of ownership while continuing to serve clients.
“We talked, and it worked out to be a really good decision for both of us,” Johnson said.
He said the main reason for purchasing the salon was to create a space for his daughter, Taylor, a licensed nail technician.
“When Taylor was going to school for it, I planned to build her a salon,” he said. “Then it came to my attention that April Bryant was wanting to sell her salon. April has done a great job in her many years of running the business, and it has been a great service to the community.”
Johnson said the salon has undergone a complete renovation with the help of local contractors and crews from his other businesses. Work was completed by crews from CTR Homes and Johnson Plumbing, along with local subcontractors including Mike Snyder (drywall), Don’s Electric, Schwartz Heating and Cooling and GN Excavating.
The salon currently has six hairstylists, with plans to expand to eight, he said. There are also two full-time nail technicians, with another expected to begin soon. Two estheticians are set to start in the coming weeks.
Two tanning beds are expected to be operational the week of June 8, and the couple said the equipment is thoroughly sanitized before and after each use.
A full-time receptionist is available to assist customers with scheduling. Clients can also book tanning beds and infrared sauna appointments through a new online scheduling app, with details on the salon’s Facebook page. Stylists, nail technicians and spray tan providers manage their own appointments, though the salon can assist in connecting clients with providers.
Spa services, including tanning beds and the sauna, will operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The salon is open those same days, with appointment availability varying by provider.
Ricky Johnson, who has owned and operated Johnson Plumbing in Lewisport for more than 20 years, has expanded his work into residential construction through CTR Homes, a partnership. His wife, April, is also involved in Southern Girls Properties, a separate venture with a business partner, as they continue investing in locally focused businesses.
Both lifelong Hancock County residents, the couple has built their reputation around providing quality services and supporting community growth. CTR Homes is named using the initials of their three children — Colin, 21, Taylor, 19, and Raylee, 15, who will turn 16 this month. The name reflects the couple’s long-standing hope that their children would one day have opportunities to work alongside them in their businesses.
Ricky Johnson said he and April are now seeing that hope take shape as their children step into different roles. He said their son, Colin, has earned his plumbing license and taken on a significant role at Johnson Plumbing. Taylor has built a growing nail clientele since graduating from nail school, with about 50 to 60 clients and room to take on more.
Raylee will also be working at the salon, he said, and has already begun helping the receptionist with scheduling, learning the Clover scheduling and payment system. She recently started her own state-approved treat business, Sweeties.
“We want everyone to be able to come here to get their work done and not have to go to other areas, like having to travel to Owensboro or Tell City,” Ricky Johnson said. “Staying here locally would save them all time, money and provide a service they haven’t been able to get before too. We’re trying to offer that for them.”
The salon will continue serving existing clients as the Johnsons bring their vision to the business.
