Hancock County Celebrates Sorghum Heritage at the 2025 Independence Bank Sorghum Festival

Get ready to celebrate the tradition of sorghum-making at the 2025 Independence Bank Sorghum Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25! This family-friendly event is free and will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Visitors can enjoy homemade sorghum, live music, local food and art, children’s activities and more.
The festival will feature the annual Sorghum Fest Quilt Show in the 4-H Building, performances by the Hancock County High School Choir and Dance Haven, at the Front Pavilion, and a Children’s Costume Contest with prizes awarded. The popular Pony Pull event returns to the Horse Arena, drawing crowds eager to watch teams compete.
The day’s lineup offers a wide variety of activities to delight all ages and interests, with something for everyone to enjoy. Visitors can explore craft booths, an antique tractor parade with awards, inflatables, children’s games and prizes, plus sorghum cooking demonstrations with free biscuits and sorghum samples offered throughout the day. Food trucks featuring local favorites will also be on site.
Attendees are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items at the entrance to support Hancock County Schools’ Backpack Buddies Food Program.
The Hancock County Fairgrounds are located at 1430 State Route 1389 in Hawesville. Admission is free, making the event accessible and enjoyable for the entire community.
