O-G Parent Training
Thursday, August 21st: Orton-Gillingham Parent Training at the Lewisport Library. Sessions are: 9-11 a.m., 12-2 p.m., and 2:30-4:30 p.m. Light refreshments and childcare provided for ages 2-9. Learn the basics, hands-on practice, ask questions, connect with others, and support your child. Saturday, October 25th: Sorghum Festival Quilt Show at the HC Fairgrounds. If you’re interested in entering a quilt, you may drop them off at the HC Extension Office starting October 20th (8a.m.-4p.m.), and until noon on Oct. 24th. You may also drop them off at the HC Fairgrounds on Oct. 24th, 2 p.m.-5 p.m., or Oct. 25th, 8 a.m.-9 a.m.
2025 Sorghum Fest
Saturday, October 25th: 2025 Independence Bank Sorghum Festival at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Local arts, food vendors, quilt show, antique tractors, petting zoo, inflatables, live music and live sorghum making and tasting!

Voice of Democracy & Patriot’s Pen Student Competition
The 2025/2026 VFW Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen student entry deadline is Friday, October 31st, 2025. The theme is: “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?” Voice of Democracy is the patriotic audio essay competition, and the Grand Prize is $35K. Patriot’s Pen is the patriotic written essay competition, and the Grand Prize is $5K.
