Labor Day Weekend Fest planned for City of Lewisport

The Lewisport City Council met on Thursday evening, July 18th. At last month’s meeting, it was approved for there to be a Labor Day Weekend Fest in downtown Lewisport on Saturday, August 31st. There will be fireworks, a tractor pull and a car show, since those were rained out for the 2024 Annual Lewisport Heritage Festival held in June.
The City plans to have this fun family event from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and there will also be food, music and a beer wagon. More information will be provided soon in The Clarion as more details are solidified by the organizing committee and approved by the Council.

New Rides Company
The Heritage Festival Committee has chosen a new rides company for next year’s festival, Lewisport Mayor Chad Gregory said. More details on that will also be provided in future editions of The Clarion.
Discussion on Alley Closing (Flener & Adams)
The Council had some discussion on a request that was made by landowners in the City of Lewisport. “It’s a couple of landowners that want the alleys closed,” Gregory said. “One was not developed and one is developed. The Council decided to table the discussion until, hopefully, we can hear from both of the landowners on why they want this done, and what purpose it will serve.”
Public Works Update
Superintendent R.J. Simpson reported that their summer help has been doing very well and he, the crew, and the Council are very proud of them. He vocalized to the Council last month the need to expand the Public Works building by 30 feet due to the crew’s growing amount of equipment. Estimates for construction have not yet been presented. The Council is currently looking at purchasing more pieces of equipment that are needed for the crew, including a dump truck.
