Heartland Villa Cruise-In & Fireworks Fundraiser

By Jennifer Wimmer
Mark your calendars, and plan to attend this important fundraising day on Saturday, June 28th at Heartland Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in Lewisport! The Cruise-In & Fireworks event is happening from 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m., and all of the proceeds will go to their Resident Council, and the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Some of the dollars raised will help the Heartland Villa Resident Council organize more opportunities for the residents to get out into the community, and be able to enjoy different activities, such as dining at local restaurants, going bowling, taking trips to the theater to watch movies, and visits to museums. Community advocates like Hancock County Senior Services provide the transportation for many of these outings, which make a huge difference in the residents’ quality of life.
All vehicles are welcome to this year’s Cruise-In that will showcase games, music, balloon art, face painting, and food available for purchase. Plate lunches will be sold, featuring Boston butts, hamburgers, and hot dogs. The bake sale is sponsored by the Lewisport Baptist Church again this year, and they are donating cakes and various sweet treats. Dr. Popper Entertainment, of Owensboro, is donating time for the fun balloon art activities, and local artist Christy Head is volunteering her creative expertise for the face painting.
David Curry, Heartland Villa Admissions and Marketing Director, said the event will wrap up with a fireworks display, illuminating the night sky for a delightful finale to the event again this year, and generously donated by First Class Services.
“We had a pretty good turnout last year. There were a lot of cars,” David said. “We just want to be a part of the community, so we try to invite the community in to spend time with the residents. We have a lot of guys who enjoy cars, in general. They really enjoy the Cruise-In. Last year, one of our residents got to sit in one of the classic cars, and we took a picture with all of the residents around the car…We welcome all vehicles — motorcycles, sports vehicles, etc. We just want to line them up for this. It’s not a car show, so there’s no competition. We’re just trying to raise money for our residents.”
David said the array of vehicles that showed up last year inspired one resident to share his memories of his own classic and antique car collection that he cherished in days past. The event is a fun day for residents, helps establish meaningful connections between them and citizens, and provides a family-friendly outing day for locals, while also raising money for two very worthy causes.
