Tennis teams battle Owensboro and Apollo

The HCHS tennis teams dropped matches to Owensboro High School during competition in Owensboro Monday. The Red Devils won 8-1 in both boys and girls matches.

“I thought some of the guys were a bit tight and it took a while before they got fed up and decided to start competing,” HCHS coach Dan Hopkins said.

Lukas Anderson lost 2-6, 2-6 to John Clay Ford in #1 singles play. Tyce Boling fell 0-6, 0-6 to Walker Gaddis, and Preston Blanton fell 2-8 to Arlo Johnson. Alex Madden lost 2-8 to Andrew Diebel, and Mikey Whitefeather fell 5-8 to Kennedy Payne.

Kyle Anderson was the only winner on the boys side for HCHS. He won 8-4 over Miles McDaniel.

“Congrats to Kyle for getting the lone win,” the coach said.

Lukas Anderson and Madden battled tough in doubles but lost 4-6, 4-6 to Gaddis and McDaniel.

All the doubles matches were contested well. Kyle Anderson and Tre London fell 4-8 to Johnson and Diebel, and Blanton and Boling lost 7-9 to Broderick Devine and Malik Browder. “The doubles matches were all close, but just couldn’t quite get over the top.”

Ella Chappell lost 0-6, 0-6 to Anna Travis in #1 singles action. Chiara Landes lost a tough match to Ellie Watson as scores were 4-6, 4-6. Kylie Bowlds fell 2-8 to Carsyn Cecil and Ruchi Patel fell 0-8 to D. Crandall.

Audree Morris took the victory over G. Roberts, winning 8-1.

“We played a solid Owensboro team. Our girls were overmatched in some spots, but they’re still learning.

“Chiara battled through a long, tough match and Audree got a big win,” Hopkins said.

Chappell and Landes fell 0-6, 0-6 to Addie Travis and Ford in doubles action. Bowlds and Morris fell by the same scores to Anna Travis and Cecil.

Apollo

The HCHS boys team fell 2-3 to Apollo during a match at Vastwood Park Tuesday. Lukas Anderson fell 5-8 to Ben Austin in #1 singles. Boling fell 3-8 to Jamison Franey. Madden won 8-3 over Nolan Duke and Van Reska won 6-2 over Duke in a JV match.

Blanton and Caleb Ewing won 8-2 over Maddox Tucker and Connor O’Bryan in doubles, and Kyle Anderson and Tre London won 8-4 over Rane Sox and Ben Halbig.

The Lady Hornets lost 1-4 to the Lady E-gals.

Chappell fell 0-8 to Afina Winters in #1 singles. Landes lost 2-8 to Adelyn Dilback and Patel lost 1-8 to Anna Dilback.

Morris and Bowlds won their doubles match 8-6 over Jami Ebelhor and Annie Halbig.
