Ray Allen Jones
Ray Allen Jones, 75, of Owensboro, went home to meet Jesus on December 2, 2025. He was born December 8, 1949 to the late Clifton and Louise Simpson Jones of Lewisport. From an early age he strived to learn from everyone around him. Ray was an amazing individual with abilities many never knew he possessed. His dad, brothers (H.W. and Danny) and the Gabbert brothers were great teachers through the years. From age 7, he began working with his dad on the farm, learning and loving every aspect of farming. At age 17, the farm was sold turning his interest to helping build and work at NSA in Hancock County. While there, he helped his brother, H.W., build houses in Hancock Park Subdivison. Ray’s next venture was working on interstate highways. He returned to Lewisport to continue his brother, H.W.’s business in appliance and electrical.
During these years, he worked with his brother, Danny, helping to develop Vastwood Parks Softball Fields and Campsite. During this time, he also found joy coaching softball teams for his girls. Through coaching, he touched many lives in Hancock County. He once again returned to interstate highway work based in Virginia as superintendent over reconstruction and sealing. He invented many enhancements to the machinery to make jobs easier. He worked alongside his employees which made huge differences in their attitudes and lives.
Several years and 100’s of miles later, Ray returned to Kentucky and married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanette DeHaven. Together they created JJ’s Appliance, working on all major appliance brands and as a master electrician, electrical contractor, and HVAC certified, led them to acquire rental properties. He and Jeanette restored and maintained their properties in top condition. After 13 years and 47,000 jobs later, retirement was welcomed with the lure of the ocean. They found the perfect fixer-upper, a home found near the Florida coast. The next six years were spent tweaking the property making it uniquely theirs. They spent four years enjoying the Florida sites and flea markets.
Ray loved the feel of freedom riding his Harley to several states and many destinations, and taking excursions on his fishing boat were also special.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard William Jones and Daniel Clifton Jones; and sisters, Betty Jo Jones and Norma Jean Arrington.
Those left with precious memories are his wife of 27 years, Jeanette DeHaven Jones; daughters, Vanessa King (Josh), Tonya Jones, and Sarah Melton (Harrison); grandchildren, Shelby Ray (Jacob), Kyle Ray, Trinity King (Andrew), and Brenden King (Ben); great-granddaughter, Dani, and another bundle of joy due in May; sisters, Mary Powers (Gene) and Judy Payne; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank the nurses, CNA’s, and doctors at OHRH who helped them and Ray during this difficult time.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
