Lavetta Hamilton

Lavetta Hamilton, age 68, of Cloverport took her last earthly breath and received her angel wings on December 11th, 2021. Veta was born February 22nd, 1953 to Leo and Bessie (Goatley) Coogle.

Throughout her life, Veta prioritized her family and her community. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and assisting with church activities at Hites Run Baptist Church, where she was a member.

One of her most notable works there can be remembered as the Christmas play featuring the stage diving flock of sheep. She also loved trips to Rainbow Skateland with the youth groups. Veta was a talented installer of wallpaper, learning the art from her one handed father Leo.

Her ability to capture her thoughts and emotions in poems was second to none. Another of Veta’s talents included being an expert Christmas candy maker, just ask the many folks who cherished her divinity, fudge, and forgotten cookies.

Veta and a dear friend of hers acquired Higginbotham’s Store (Elmer’s) in Cloverport and operated it for several years. She loved her time participating on the Sacajawea Festival Board, coaching cheerleading, and supporting the youth baseball teams at the old ball diamond.

Her greatest source of pride, however, came from her children and grandchildren. Despite the challenges, she always made sure to be there in some way for the big moments, but more importantly, the hard ones.

Preceding Veta in death are her parents; her husband, Jimmy Hamilton; sister, Wanda Coogle and brother Steven Coogle.

Left to celebrate the life she lived are her children, David Hamilton of Seymour, Tennessee, Jamie Hamilton of Cloverport, Kentucky, and Jeffrey (Jessi) Hamilton of Hawesville, Kentucky; granddaughter, Macie Mattingly, twin grandsons, Bridger and David Hamilton; brother, Donnie (Barbara) Coogle of Tell City, Indiana; sisters, Betty (Kenny) Eskridge and Becky Wethington of Cloverport, Kentucky; and loads of nieces, nephews, family, neighbors, and friends that will always be considered family.

Visitation for Lavetta will be held at Cloverport Funeral Home on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 9am – 2pm with her service beginning at 2pm. Burial will follow in the Cloverport Cemetery.

Cloverport Funeral Home is honored to be of service to the Hamilton family.
