The number of registered sex offenders in Daviess County has increased by more than 50% in recent years, according to data from the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry.
State records indicate that the rise has outpaced overall population growth. Totals in Daviess County are also higher than those reported in some of Kentucky’s larger counties.
Officials have said a number of registered offenders in Daviess County were convicted in other areas before relocating. State law places restrictions on where offenders can live, limiting housing options in many communities.
The Kentucky Department of Corrections oversees supervision of offenders after sentencing and reviews residence approvals, while Kentucky State Police maintain the registry. Officials also say that changes in technology have contributed to shifts in the types of offenses that result in registration.
Residents can view the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry on the Kentucky State Police website, where users can search by county, including Hancock County, or by address to find information about registered offenders in their area.
