Logan Boling Completes Flight Training, will train pilots

Logan Boling

Boling Chapel native, Logan Boling, has completed flight training school and will be instructing flight lessons soon. He said the current pilot shortage is what has nudged him in this change in career, along with his love of flying. His goal is to be a commercial airline pilot.

“I’ve always had an interest in flying,” Logan said, “I just always enjoyed the airport process and flying in the big jets. I have a few friends from the area who got into flight training, and I decided I wanted to give it a shot.

I had been thinking about it for awhile and researching, and decided it was time. The first flight I ever took, outside of flying on a commercial airline, was an introductory flight with my flight school. I enjoyed that and decided to pursue it.”

He began his training in April of last year at ATP Flight School – Airline & Commercial Pilot Training Programs, in Indiana. He completed 250 hours of flight training, along with extensive classwork and studying at home, on May 29th, 2024. The school is located near Louisville, and he lived there for about 7 months for the training and rented a house with his younger brother, Jordan, who graduated from U of L and is currently working in that area.

Logan completed 6 Training Programs at ATP: Private Pilot License Instrument Rating, Commercial Single Engine, Commercial Multi-Engine, Certified Flight Instructor, Multi-Engine Instructor, and Certified Flight Instructor Instrument Rating.

He is a 2014 Hancock County High School Graduate, and played baseball from Little League through attending HCHS. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with his Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 2019, and went on to earn a Master’s in Business Administration at WKU as well. He then worked as Loan Review Specialist at Independence Bank in Owensboro.

“I’m planning on starting at Madisonville Community College as a flight instructor,” Logan said. “I will build hours until I can meet my 1,500-hour requirement to fly for the airlines.”

He and his fiancé, Whitney, were engaged in March of this year. They met via a mutual friend in 2020. She is from Owensboro, and is a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse at Owensboro Regional Health Hospital. They have planned their wedding for April 26th, 2025.

He said Whitney is excited about going flying with him. “We haven’t been up together yet,” he said, “but she looks forward to it. We definitely want to travel, but we have nothing specific in mind yet.”

He and Whitney live in Owensboro. They love spending time with their 2 dogs, a golden retriever named Scout and a golden doodle named Rosie. He said he is hoping to be flying commercial in as soon as a year and a half, and that at some point he’d like to purchase his own small plane but not anytime soon.

Logan is the son of Hancock County Circuit Court Clerk Michael T. Boling and Vickie Boling. Vickie works at MPD, Inc. in Owensboro. His older brother, Daniel Boling, is District Judge in Hancock County.
