Brooklyn Porter Chosen as Delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders

HCHS Sophomore Brooklyn Porter was chosen as a Delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders.
Hancock County High School Sophomore Brooklyn Porter was chosen as a Delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, a very selective program for high school students with academic honors who have decided to study to become physicians or go into medical research fields after graduation.
HCHS Health Science Instructor Tiffany Carnes nominated Brooklyn for this prestigious program. Carnes is HOSA-Future Health Professionals Chapter Advisor at HCHS, and selected Brooklyn to participate in the program because of her genuine interest in the medical field.
Brooklyn said she appreciates Mrs. Carnes for instilling in her a love of healthcare, as well as supporting her in all of her classes and HOSA. She also greatly appreciates her mom, Kimberly, for making this amazing opportunity possible. “She’s always pushing me to follow my dreams,” she said.
She was accepted into the Early College Program this year to pursue her Associate’s Degree in Science, and says she plans to explore her options in specialty nursing. Next school year, she will be taking all of her high school credits at OCTC, such as English 101, College Algebra and General Psychology, as well as Anatomy and Physiology classes.
This summer, she will be attending a 3-day Congress along with students from all around the United States. National Medal of Science recipients and Nobel laureates will be discussing medical research and the students will have an opportunity to hear miracle stories told by patients, get advice from medical school deans, learn about medical technology, leading medical advances and more.
Brooklyn is the daughter of Kimberly & Ryan Porter, and has 2 brothers, Jayden and Mason. Her mom is a 2nd Grade Teacher at South Hancock Elementary.
She has played percussion in the Hornet Concert Band, as well as being a color guard member in the Hornet Marching Band. She also participates in HCHS Theatre and Choir.
For years, she’s been very active in Theatre Workshop of Owensboro, Shadowcasts with River Park Center, Owensboro Dance Theatre and Bluegrass Children’s Theatre, and recently accepted the opportunity to attend the Giordano Dance Summer Intensive Workshop in Chicago again this year.
“I am looking for sponsors to help pay the expenses for both of these special opportunities, as both are very expensive,” Brooklyn said. “I have to pay tuition, travel, lodging and food for both trips.”
Fundraiser & Sponsorship
She is selling Texas Roadhouse peanuts as a fundraiser for the 2 trips she’ll be taking this summer. If you would like to contribute to her fundraiser or sponsor her, please contact her mom by email at: [email protected]. A direct contribution can be made by check to: The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists, with Brooklyn’s name on the memo. Donations of gift cards to help with lodging and meal costs would also be greatly appreciated.
Brooklyn has been assistant teaching her own Pre-K Class at the dance studio, where she has studied dance for 14 years now. She’s also been working summers at Holiday World, and has gone on 3 international mission trips to Honduras.
She worked in Comayagua and El Ayundante building pilas (above ground water basins) and latrines, painting a school, installing water filtration systems and sharing the gospel to the families at each work site. Her 3rd trip, she went to Tela and worked with a new start-up mission reaching out to the community, helping with Beach Vacation Bible School and painting a school.
