Today, Nov. 11th, Veterans Day special program honoring Hancock County’s Veterans

This Saturday, November 11th, Hancock County VFW Post 5186 is hosting a celebration in honor of all local Hancock County Veterans and their families at the Hawesville Baptist Church New Life Center Fellowship Hall.  The hall is located at 290 Main Street in Hawesville, beginning at 11 a.m.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

U.S. Air Force Veterans and Post Historian L.T. Newton said there will be a “Super Speaker” this year and it is a surprise.


The program will be about an hour long, and begins at 11 a.m. The Invocation will be done by U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and Post Chaplain Wayne Stephens. HCHS students will be present for the posting of the colors. HCHS Choir students will be singing, and Bryan Adkins will sing the National Anthem.

There will be a Wreath Presentation by HC Fiscal Court and Daughters of the American Revolution. HC Homemakers will be gifting quilts.

There will also be a ceremony with the meaning of each fold of our National Flag, as well as for honoring departed comrades of this past year.


 There will be a drawing for a Model 700 Remington with scope.

Meal at Noon

There will be a catered lunch from Bill & Dave’s Smokin’ Pit, of Tell City, at 12 p.m. Bill’s on the Hill is donating refreshments. Local churches are donating cakes and other foods as well. Post Chaplain Stephens will be doing the Blessing before the meal.
