United Way Giving Campaign 2023/24 Has Begun
The United Way Campaign Kick-Off for 2023-2024 began on Friday, August 18th. This year’s campaign entitled, “Why I Give” is focused on each person’s understanding of why it is important to give back to help others in need, as well as how they can inspire others.
This campaign is the main mechanism for United Way (UW) to raise funds to support the work of over 50 nonprofit agencies in the 6-county area. United Way of the Ohio Valley (UWOV) serves not only Hancock County, but also the counties of Ohio, Union, Daviess, McLean and Webster. With a staff of only 5 people, dedicated board members and community volunteers, UW delivers an educated, efficient and collaborative approach to addressing the most pressing needs in communities right here, right now, right at home.
UWOV President & CEO Paula Yevincy said, “United Way focuses on bringing people together in purpose. We understand the bigger picture of our community, the problems we face and the importance of working together to create solutions. We understand the critical importance of our role as not only fundraisers for our nonprofit communities, but also as an entity that can inspire long lasting changes for the betterment of our citizens.”
In the area, every fall, Live United signs promote this annual campaign. This year, UW encourages everyone to focus on the meaning of living united in our communities. UW strives to unite people in communities from all walks of life. The community takes care of each other and you can see that through the work that UW does. Through this campaign, you can be a part of this.
Savannah Gatton, UWOV Director of Resource Development & Marketing said, “I am excited to see how our community successfully comes together through this campaign. I encourage everyone to think this year: ‘Why I Give to United Way?’, and if you do not, then, ‘Why Not?’”
UW has become even more committed to making this campaign successful to fulfill the growing requests that came from agency applications last year. An enthusiastic goal of 1.6 million has been set by the organization for this campaign. To kick-start the campaign this year, UW will be hosting a unique experience that features the rich bourbon heritage of Kentucky, while celebrating the talented local artists of the area.
“Barrels of HeART” will be held on Thursday, September 14th at the beautiful Grand Stable in Philpot. UWOV decided that they could no longer just depend on the employee campaign alone to meet the needs of its organizations, and are so grateful to all of their current donors. They invite everyone to be involved in this important work to serve the communities.
This is a call to action for all of us to come together with thoughtful intention to support local solutions in the communities where we live and work. Everyone wants a thriving community, but we are often skeptical or doubting that we can even make a difference. The truth is, every gift matters, large or small, whether it is donating, volunteering or speaking out for policies that will improve our community. Give today…you truly can change someone’s life.
