A Gingerbread House Contest is happening at the Hancock County Farm Museum on Decmeber 2, as a part of the Lewisport Christmas in the Park.

There are two categories: one for children ages 14 & under and a Family Category for entering your family-made gingerbread houses.

All entries must be submitted to the Hancock County Farm Museum by 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1st. The winners will be announced at the Christmas Tree Lighting during Christmas in the Park on Friday, December 2nd.

The rules are as follows: Your gingerbread house must be 18 inches x 18 inches or smaller. It can be made from anything gingerbread, cardboard, paper mache, craft sticks and more.

The winners will be awarded prizes on Friday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m. First Place will receive $100 and Second Place will receive $50.

The Gingerbread House Contest is sponsored by Labor Management Federal Credit Union, Pam’s Traveling Friend’s and JJ’s Pizza. Call Pam Bolen-Lee with any questions at: 270-922-8346.

Children and families from across Hancock County will be entering their gingerbread houses. During the Thanksgiving weekend, Pam said that many were baking and cutting gingerbread for their houses and will be bringing them to the Hancock County Farm Museum for judging.

Christmas in the Park

Lewisport Christmas in the Park will have many local food booths, as well as a craft vendor market. There will be over 40 vendors! The Hancock County Chamber of Commerce Holiday Market in coordination with the City of Lewisport will be happening during Christmas in the Park as well as before the Lewisport Christmas Parade on Saturday.

There will be many free activities for you and your family at Christmas in the Park, including the Annual Tree Lighting at 6:00 p.m. and the announcement of the winners of the Gingerbread House Contest afterward at 7:00 p.m.

The Future Farmers of America (FFA) will be selling cornbread, bean soup and burgoo stew as a fundraiser to benefit FFA. Along with several food trucks, Lewisport Methodist Church will be selling hamburgers & hot dogs. JJ’s Pizza will be selling pizza by the slice and Friends of the Park will be selling beverages as well. Los Amigos will be selling their delicious tacos. These are just a few of the many food options you’ll get to choose from on Friday evening!

There will also be: inflatables and amusement park rides for the children, train rides, visits with Santa & Mrs. Claus, an opportunity for children to send their letters to the North Pole, a scavenger hunt for adults & children, along with free cookies, hot chocolate and hot apple cider.

“Friday night, when we have this event in downtown Lewisport,” Pam said, “you would think it’s part of a Hallmark movie and that’s really what it looks like. I look for there to be thousands there this year. It is a great family tradition that we are trying to make for our community here and we hope everyone will come out and support those who are trying to raise money and support our local vendors by buying some of your Christmas presents.”

The Lewisport Christmas Parade is themed “Christmas on the Farm” this year and will be held the next day on Saturday, December 3 in downtown Lewisport at 4:00 p.m. The Grand Marshal of the parade will be Kevin Rates, who won a gold and silver medal for Kentucky this year in the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.
