HCHS Hornets must win at Todd to make playoffs
The Hornets are back in action after a week off and will face a must win situation during a district game with Todd County Central Friday. Kick off is 7pm at Elkton.
The Rebels (4-4) are 0-3 in district play, but they’ve been competitive. Butler County had to go to overtime to beat Todd 27-21. The Rebels also put up 37 points in a loss to Catholic, but that is somewhat misleading as the Aces played their junior varsity for a large portion of the game.
In any case, the Hornets must win Friday to qualify for the playoffs. If Todd wins the Hornets will sit home during the post season.
“Every district game is a must win but this one especially. We have to get this win,” Hancock head coach Bobby Eubanks said. “They’re an explosive team and they have some guys who can really play. We’ve been in some dog fights with them the past couple of years and this game won’t be any different.
“We have to get off the bus ready to play. We have to get them off the field and our offense has to be productive.”
Gavyn Nolan, #13, plays quarterback for the Rebels. He has thrown for 1,105 yards, with 11 touchdown passes, and ran for 607 yards and eight TDs. The next biggest threat is Jamarion Smith, #23, with 854 yards and eight scores. The team’s top receiver is Nate Reding, #11, with 39 receptions and five TDs.
