Stephens and Ralph take second; Ross breaks 21

Hunter Stephens and Lexus Ralph both placed second during a cross country dual meet with Apollo at Panther Creek Park in Owensboro on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Stephens completed the 3K course in a time of 10 minutes, 54 seconds, while Emmitt Meserve was seventh in 11:43. Damion Basham ran 10th in 12:15, Griffin DeJarnette 11th in 12:16, Max DeJarnette 13th in 12:37 and Noah Wheatley 15th in 17:54.

Apollo’s Josh Thomas won in 10:48.

Apollo won the meet with 19 points. Hancock County scored 42 points.

Ralph placed second in the girls 3K race with a time of 13:02. Izzy Ross was fifth in 13:19, Carolina Jones sixth in 13:36, Preslee Meserve eighth in 15:08, Juliana Nevitt 11th in 15:44, Lyla DeJarnette 13th in 15:55, and Jayda Meserve 14th in 15:57.

Apollo’s Ahmira Pickett won in 12:26.

Apollo won the meet with 24 points. Hancock County scored 32 points.

Daviess County Classic

The HCHS cross country teams competed in the Daviess County Classic held at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro Saturday.

“The team ran well. I was particularly pleased with Hunter running under 18 again, Noah breaking 19 and Izzy running in the 20’s,” HCHS coach Wes Meserve said.

Izzy Ross led Hancock County with a 34th place finish in the girls 5K race. Ross completed the course in a time of 20 minutes, 59 seconds.

Lexus Ralph was 62nd in 22:14, Preslee Meserve 109th in 23:58, Jayda Meserve 144th in 25:34, Juliana Nevitt 170th in 27:13.

Abby Overbay of South Warren won in 18:54.

South Warren won the team title with 71 points. Hancock County (415 points) was 16th.

Boys results

Hunter Stephens placed 52nd to lead the boys. His time was 17 minutes, 50 seconds. Noah Henson placed 114th in 18:57, Damion Basham 207th in 20:47, Griffin DeJarnette 214th in 20:56, Max DeJarnette 248th in 21:52 and Noah Wheatley 324th in 29:29.

Brendan Nagle of North Hardin won in 15:48.

Apollo won the team title with 131 points. Hancock County (661 points) placed 26th.

Elementary results

The elementary runners competed in the Apollo XC elementary series at Panther Creek Park on Oct. 4.

Ellen Meserve won first place in the girls 3-5 grade division. She ran the 1K course in 3:59. Oonagh DeJarnette placed third in 4:22 and Alyson Goodall was ninth in 4:46.

Elias Meserve won first place in the boys K-2 grade division with a time of 4:10. Beckham DeJarnette was second in 4:23.

Michael Fulkerson placed 13th in 4:49 in the boys 3-5th division. Owen Shyver was 26th 5:26.

Raegan Helm placed 19th in 6:19 in the girls K-2 division, and Audre Earhart was 24th in 6:46.
