Election filings continue; deadline for primary Jan. 7

Deadline to register for local primaries is Jan. 7.

Candidates for the May 17 primary of the 2022 Election have begun filing in Hancock County.

The primary election filing deadline for 2022 is Jan. 7.

The community will select party nominees for the Nov. 8 General Election during the primary.

All county constitutional offices are on the ballot, along with city councils in Hawesville and Lewisport, which are non-partisan. Hawesville mayor will also be on the ballot. Mayor Charlie King has served 24 years in the position.

Lewisport Mayor Chad Gregory was elected to his position in 2020, and therefore the office will not be on the ballot in 2022.

School Board is also non-partisan. Seats on the ballot are the First and Third Districts.

The deadline for non-partisan races is June 7.

As well, Kentucky will elect a U.S. senator to the seat currently held by Sen. Rand Paul of Bowling Green. Former state lawmaker Charles Booker has already filed for the Democratic primary.

The Kentucky House District 10 seat will be on the ballot. The seat is currently held by Rep. Josh Calloway.

The Kentucky State Senate District 8 seat will be on the ballot. The seat is currently held by Sen. Matt Castlen.
