Veterans Day events set for Nov. 11 and 12

Hancock County will observe Veterans Day events next week. On November 11 the event will take place at New Life Center at Hawesville Baptist Church and at Hancock County High School on November 12.

VFW Post 5186 will host the event at New Life Center on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. All local veterans and families are encourage to attend.  Food will be provided by Bill’s IGA.

Program highlights will include posting of colors by Hancock County High School, a POW/MIA ceremony, tolling of the bell to honor fallen comrades, explanation of the folds of the U.S. colors, and a medley of service songs. The HCHS program will begin a 1:45 p.m., in the gymnasium on Nov. 12.

The public is invited to attend.

Be sure to pick up a Nov. 11 edition of the Clarion, which will feature several pages of veterans photos and information about Hancock County’s contributions to the nation’s conflicts and peace time service in uniform.

Tell City VFW 2939, Winchell-Vogel Post, will host a silent auction fundraiser Nov. 4-6 at the post located at 301 Main Street.
The post is open from noon until 7 p.m., and the auction will close at end of business on Nov. 6. For additional information, contact Gerald Davis at 812-608-0266.
