Teen Dungeons & Dragons Night Friday, July 30th at the Lewisport library
Join us at 5pm as we play the classic fantasy roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons! This year’s summer reading theme is “Tails and Tales”, and the core of D&D is just that: telling tales. It’s you and your friends telling a story together, guiding your heroes through quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, daring rescues, courtly intrigue, and much more. No experience is needed, and new players are welcome! Dice and other supplies will be provided, as well as pizza! For ages 13–18. Spots are limited and pre-registration is required. Please call (270) 927-6760 for more information and to reserve a seat.
Teen Advisory Group Tuesday, August 3rd at the Hawesville library
Teen Advisory Group is a council of high schoolers that have a hands-on role in making the library a teen-friendly space in our community. Members will earn community service hours while helping to plan the types of events and programs that they are passionate about. And yes: there will be food!
TAG is a great way to meet new friends, be heard, and showcase your interests. It also looks great on college applications and résumés! Meetings will be held at 3:30pm on the first Tuesday of every month. The August meeting will be at the Hawesville Library. It’s possible that we will alternate meeting locations as the group becomes active. If you have questions or would like to apply to be part of TAG, please contact Patrick Burk at [email protected], or call the library at (270) 927-6760.
Outdoor Movie Night Friday, July 23rd at the Lewisport library
Join us for our third and final outdoor movie night at the Lewisport library! We’ll be watching a hit family film involving all manner of animals living in a fantastic city — a utopia, of sorts! The movie will begin at approximately 8:30pm. Bring your own chair or blanket, and we’ll bring the popcorn!
Book Review: Say Her Name
A poetry book created by Zetta Elliot, that’s filled with beautifully written words describing the pain, discrimination, growth, acceptance of self, and united front that those of colors experience. Inspired by the works of Lucille Clifton, Audre Lorde, Nikki Giovanni, and Phillis Wheatley, Say Her Name pays tribute to victims of police brutality as well as the activists insisting that Black Lives Matter.” This is a wonderfully creative source to see into the lives of those with skin that’s not accepted in today’s society.
Do you need quiet time to study or a place to sit and get work done? Call the Hawesville location at 270-927-6760 or Lewisport at 270-295-3765 to reserve the study room or meeting room! These are great places to do homework and virtual meetings in peace and quiet. And with all the new space at Lewisport, there’s plenty of rooms to choose from!
