Car runs traffic light in Lewisport

No one suffered injury in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 60 and state Route 657 in Lewisport on July 2 at approximately 4 p.m. Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy BJ Burton filed the accident report.

Burton wrote in his report that James E. Lanham, of Lewisport, traveling west on U.S. 60 in a 2011 Toyota Camry, failed to yield the right-of-way at the traffic light at the intersection of U.S. 60 and state Route 657, went through the light and struck a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Joe D. Hamilton, of Maceo.

The pickup sustained moderate damage to the rear driver’s side quarter panel, but the vehicle did not require a tow. Lanham’s Camry sustained minor to moderate damage, and a wrecker from Bob’s Garage towed the vehicle.

Van rams truck

Two vehicles sustained damage in an accident two miles west of Hawesville on River Road. The accident happened July 1 at approximately 12 p.m. Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Emmick filed the accident report.

In his report, Emmick wrote that Larry N. Lee, of Whitesville, driving a 2006 Chevrolet Express van owned by Hagerman Plumbing and Heating of Owensboro, started to back the van from a parking spot and misjudged the distance between the van and an unoccupied 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 owned by Jerry L. Yaeger of Philpot parked behind him. Lee backed into the front of the Ram pickup, and caused moderate damage to the truck.

The van sustained very minor damage. Neither vehicle required a tow.

Dodge rams sign

A suspected drunk driver escaped injury in an accident at the foot of the Bob Cummings Lincoln Trail Bridge in Hawesville. The accident happened on June 27 at approximately 8:45 p.m. Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Frank Howard filed the accident report.

In his report, Howard wrote that Martin J. Sweat, of Tell City, Ind. went straight at the foot of the bridge in his 2013 Dodge Ram pickup instead of making the right bearing turn, hopped the curb and knocked down a sign and cross standing in the side yard of Immaculate Conception church.

The Kentucky State Police also responded to the accident. Trooper Joe Hensley arrested Sweat on a charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, according to Howard’s report.

Sweat’s pickup sustained very severe damage. A wrecker from Bob’s Garage towed the truck from the scene.
