Accidents in Hancock

Truck hits deer
A pickup truck sustained damage when it hit a deer on U.S. 60. The accident happened on November 20 at approximately 6 p.m. Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy BJ Burton filed the accident report.
Luke C. Voyles of Hardinsburg told Burton a deer jumped out in front of his 2020 GMC Sierra pickup as he drove west on U.S. 60 in the city limits of Hawesville. Unable to avoid the deer, his truck hit the animal. Voyles did not suffer injury in the accident.
Voyles’ pickup truck sustained minor to moderate front end damage. The truck did not require a tow.

Steering failure causes wreck
The driver of a truck going west on state Route 334 suffered injury when the truck ran off the road on November 13. The accident happened at approximately 3:45 p.m. Hancock County Sheriff Dale Bozarth filed the accident report.

Sharon Belcher of Owensboro told Bozarth as she drove her 1996 Toyota Tacoma west on state Route 334, approximately 3.5 miles west of Lewisport, she heard a loud pop, and the truck started to pull hard to the right. The truck went off of the road, over a steep embankment. The truck came to rest in a cornfield.
Belcher suffered a back injury in the accident. Hancock County Emergency Services responded to the scene to provide first aid, and later transported her to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for additional treatment.

As factors in the wreck, Bozarth listed Belcher not having the vehicle under proper control, and steering failure. The truck sustained very minor damage, but due to the steering failure a wrecker from Bob’s Garage towed the vehicle.
