Hawesville passes $1.5 million budget

The Hawesville City Council passed the 2020-21 budget with little discussion Tuesday night. Total appropriations for the 2020-21 budget cycle is $1,535,650, of this amount, the water/sewer fund is the largest expenditure.
Total appropriations for the Water/Sewer funds are $870,500, and the General Fund contains appropriations of $507,350. The Road Fund contains $113,000, the LGEA Fund $10,000 and the Cemetery Fund $34,800. City Attorney Charles Mattingly III conducted the second reading, after which the council voted unanimously to adopt the budget.
In other action
- Council member Junnie Morris questions the city’s contract with Digital Connections from Hardinsburg. The company has two contracts with the city, and each costs approximately $1,500 per quarter. Morris wanted to know why the city spent so much with the company. Mayor Charles King said the company handles all of the city’s IT issues, and that a technician from the company works in the city practically each day of the week overseeing the city’s technology. The council then approved the expenditure.
- The council paid the city’s May bills.
- The council approved the previous month’s meeting minutes, along with the meeting minutes of the May 19 special meeting.
- The council went into executive Session to discuss an amendment to the 2019-20 budget. The council came back into regular session, but took no action on the budget amendment.
- The council adjourned.
