A driver escaped unharmed Sunday when his older Dodge truck caught fire on Clay Street in Hawesville.
Joseph Miles was inside the vehicle when the blaze originated around the gas tank, which held about half a tank of fuel. The fire quickly engulfed the truck and everything inside, resulting in a total loss, authorities said.
The Hawesville Volunteer Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and Deputy Cody Axton with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Crews extinguished the fire, during which the roadway was temporarily closed before being reopened.
No injuries were reported. Authorities have not released additional details on the exact cause of the fire.
