Internet fiber cable being installed in Hancock County

Customers need to sign up for high speed internet

The roll-out in Hancock County has begun. It’s been almost a year and a half since Kenergy announced the partnership with internet service provider Conexon Connect. First connections began in February in McLean County, and then moved into Daviess and Union Counties.

Ervin Cable, contracted by Conexon Connect, is installing fiber on Hwy 69 and some Kenergy customers may be connected with high-speed internet as soon as the end of October.

Ervin Cable Company, contracted by Conexon, began installing fiber last week on Hwy 69 in the southern areas of the county. Some may be connected by as soon as the end of this month. Conexon Business Development Manager Leslye Krampe said a full roll-out timeline for the county can be provided possibly as soon as next week. Check the next edition of the Hancock Clarion for more details.

The fiber build-out is navigated by funding and internet access points and is happening in various areas at the same time, rather than from one county to the next. Conexon was awarded $10M of Daviess County’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, which encouraged the movement in that direction. The 3-year time frame for connecting homes and businesses across 14 counties is right on track.

Kenergy will receive $1.1B from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for Kentucky’s second allocation for infrastructure, and how that process will unfold will be announced in January. KY has around $200-300 billion already earmarked through the legislation of House Bill 320 & 315, and a portion of those dollars ($92.5M) has been requested, which would go directly to Kenergy and stay in the community.
