Meserve named athletic director at HCHS

Wes Meserve was named Hancock County High’s new athletic director last week following the resignation of AD Jeff Kessans and assistant AD Brice Duncan. Meserve will continue as teacher and cross country coach.

Meserve spoke about why he took the job.

“I’ve been interested in doing this for a while. I started as head cross country coach here in 2009 and became track coach a few years later. I’ve really enjoyed that and we did pretty well. I felt I could help our coaches and our athletic programs be more successful.

“Whatever I do in the school system I want to make a positive impact and I feel like I can make a difference in this role,” Meserve said.

Meserve just completed his last assignment for principal certification through Georgetown College.

“Accepting the AD job also seemed like a good opportunity to get my feet wet in an  administrative role,” he said.

Meserve described the job

“I’ll have to be at just about every home competition, just in case something comes up. I have to make sure we have officials and gate workers, and I have to do the budget. We also have Anna Toler, who’s our halftime Athletic Department Secretary and Vanessa Payne, who handles our purchase orders.”
