Truck goes off road
A pickup truck headed north on state Route 69 switched lanes to avoid a head-on collision Wednesday morning. The accident happened at approximately 8:15 a.m. six miles south of Hawesville. Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Emmick filed the accident report.

Gary Baker, of Reynolds Station, told Emmick as he drove north on state Route 69 in his 2000 Ford Ranger pickup, he encountered a black, full-sized pickup truck completely in his lane of travel as he rounded a curve. Baker said he swerved into the left lane to avoid collision because he could not go to the right to avoid the other truck. When Baker switched lanes, he lost control of his pickup truck, went off the left side of the roadway and struck a culvert. The other vehicle did not stop.

Baker suffered a head injury in the accident. Hancock County EMS provided first aid at the scene and transported Baker to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. A private vehicle transported his passenger, Ryleigh McDaniel, age 19 months, to a medical facility for treatment.

Baker’s pickup sustained very severe damage. A wrecker from Bob’s Garage removed the vehicle.
