Cash Express Toy & Coat Drive Finale Bake Sale and Fill the Wagon Event – Last Chance to Donate
Cash Express Pawn in Hawesville has teamed-up with Hancock County Schools and local businesses for their 17th Annual Toy & Coat Drive from November 1 – November 29. For a last chance to donate, they are having a bake sale, raffle and Fill the Wagon event this Friday, December 2nd.
There will be a Christmas decorated wagon in front of the store all day on Friday for people to make donations toward the drive as well as a Bake Sale inside the store – all proceeds go to the drive. There are also donation jars at each of the registers.
You can come in and get a free raffle ticket before 1:00 on Friday. They’ve had many items donated toward the raffle from local businesses in the community and the drawing will be on Friday between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m.
Items that can be donated to the Toy & Coat Drive are: new to gently used winter coats, hats and gloves, new socks & under garments, toys for boys & girls, gift cards for older students and non-perishable food items. They will be donated to families who need them in Hancock County for the holidays.
Cash Express is located on 310 Main Cross Street in Hawesville. The Store Manager, Marcia Myers, said the items donated have been plentiful. “We’ve had a really good turnout this year so far. I think the community understands that everyone is trying to come together to help out families that need just a little extra help this time of the year. And that’s what Cash Express wanted to do is let everyone know that we’re not just a small business here in the community, that we do want to help and give back to the community.”
Many local businesses have donated, she said, such as: Farm Bureau, Papa T’s Auto Parts, Butter & Kei’s Sonshine Café, Aces Guns & Sporting Goods, The Midway Barber Shop, A & B Florist, Los Amigos and Sylvie’s Pet Salon.
“We’re trying to get as much as possible for these kids and their families,” Marcia said. “We’ve had quite a bit of clothing items, toys and food donated to the store so far. The toys donated have been mainly for smaller kids, so if people wanted to bring in gift cards – that would help with gifts for the older kids.”
Cash Express is also awarding the grade in each school that has collected the most items with a Pizza Party on December 16th, the Friday before Christmas break.
The free raffle tickets have been available for a month now and the items donated by local businesses for that, Marcia said, are: Farm Bureau donated 2 $25 gift cards to Cracker Barrel, Los Amigos donated a $30 gift card, Sylvie’s donated one free dog grooming session, Jeremy at Midway donated a free haircut, Cash Express has donated a 32” TV, Butter & Kei’s Café donated a 24-piece dish set, Aces donated a T-shirt and A & B Florist donated a beautiful Hancock County Hornets water jug.
Marcia outlined what the store offers on a regular basis. “We offer small payday loans, pawn loans and with the pawn, we also have items to sell and we do layaway year round,” she said. “When they come in to do a loan, we sit down with them and lay it out and when they sign documents, we make sure they 100% read everything.”
They purchase and sell TVs, laptops, tools, lawn equipment, music equipment, jewelry, DVDs and more. “We won’t know if we’ll be able to take it unless you bring it in and we get a look at it,” she said.
