Fields set for city councils, school board races

The fields have been set for races for the City Councils of Hawesville and Lewisport, as well as the two Hancock County School Board seats up in the November General Election.

As well, Hawesville will elect a mayor.

Candidates for Hawesville mayor are incumbent Mayor Charles King and current Councilman Robbie McCormick.

City Council candidates in Hawesville are incumbents Wayne Herndon, Danny Doyle, Kevin Linn, Tracy Johnson and Pat Junnie Morris. City Council is comprised of six members, though only five have field to seek the office.

City Council candidates in Lewisport are incumbents Kelly Vanover, Marsha Johnson, Mary Margaret Hawkins, and Josh Roberts. Jopsehine Hagan, who has previously served on Council has also field. Victoria Sipes Shively has filed as a write-in candidate. Council is comprised of six members. Incumbents Wes Pate – who plans to move from the city – and Mary Rummage will not seek reelection.

Incumbent Raphael Wheatley and challenger Vanessa Adkins Cox have filed in School Board District 1.

Brooke Payne and Savannah Pryor have filed as candidates in School Board District 3. Incumbent Allen Kennedy will not seek reelection.

The last day to file as a write-in candidate for City Council races will be Oct. 28, 10 days prior to the Nov. 8 General Election.
