Second round of ARPA funding released locally

Hawesville and Lewisport are recipients of funding under the second tranche of funding released under the American Rescue Plan Act, the COVID-19 relief package approved by Congress in 2021.

Hawesville will receive $132,282, while Lewisport will receive $225,815. The funding levels are determined by population for cities with counts below 50,000 people. Each allocation was based on population formulas set by the Department of the Treasury.

The Kentucky Department of Local Government is responsible for dispersing the funding.

“COVID has proven that Kentucky can rise to meet challenges when we work together,” said Governor Andy Beshear. “This funding will set eligible city governments up for success as we remain committed to building a better Kentucky.”

The second round of funding includes more than $162 million for 360 cities in Kentucky. The funds can be used to offset expenses related to COVID-19 response, including costs related to protective equipment, vaccination clinics, loss of revenue, payroll and more.
