Museum Re-Opening

The Hancock County Museum has been closed for over a year because of COVID. In the past, during summer months, it was open every Sunday. Now, with not enough help they will be open just one Sunday a month. The re-opening is Sunday, July 18th from 2-4 p.m. 


Museum Schedule For 2021
 

The Museum schedule for this year is 4 Sundays, as follows: July 18th, August 8th, September 12th and October 10th; from 2-4 p.m.

Volunteers Needed

In the last year, several people have retired who had previously been very active in helping with the Museum. Anyone who is interested in volunteering their time is encouraged to get involved. They really need volunteers for the Museum and new Historical Society members with new ideas.

Upcoming Picnic–Great Way to Get Involved

The Annual Historical Society Picnic is coming up in August. Attending this event would be a great way to start getting involved. The target date is August 16th at the Pate House. It is a Potluck dinner. Everyone who is interested in Hancock County history is encouraged to come. Bring a lawn chair and a dish of your choice. Everyone is welcome.

The Historian of the Year will be announced as well as any other pertinent information. Mary Emmick, Historical Society President, wants to emphasize that this event is open to the public. She and Patsy Young have stressed the importance of new people getting involved to keep the Museum running and Hancock County history preserved.

Who Contributed The Colonial Dress?

Pasty Young, Treasurer, said that while cleaning out a closet in the museum recently, they found a Colonial dress (pictured right) and under garments in a bag without the donor’s name. “If you contributed this dress, or know who did, please call 270-927-8721 or the Clarion at 270-927-6945. We would like to acknowledge your donation in our exhibit.”
