Hancock leads area in vaccinations

The Green River District Health Department released information in the past week showing Hancock County leads the Green River area in the percentage of its population receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the press release, 40.28-percent of Hancock County residents received the vaccine. Based on the population of the county, it translates to approximately 3,513 people being vaccinated.

Though Hancock County leads the seven-county Green River Area Development District in the percentage of its population being vaccinated, in absolute numbers, Daviess County leads the way. Based on a population of 101,511 and 36.59-percent of its population being vaccinated, approximately 37,143 Daviess County residents received the vaccine.

In absolute numbers of people vaccinated, Daviess County leads the GRADD area, with Henderson County second with 13,323 people, and Ohio County third with 6,458 people vaccinated. Webster County ranks fourth with 3,663 people vaccinated, and Hancock ranks fifth in the absolute number of people vaccinated with 3,513. Union County rants sixth with 3,471 people and McLean County last with 3,064.

In terms of the percentage of the population that contracted the Coronavirus, Ohio County leads the way in the GRADD region with 10.5-percent of its population contracting the virus. Daviess and Henderson counties came in next with 10.4-percent of each county’s population getting the virus.

The percentage of Hancock County’s population that contracted the virus came in just behind at 9.8-percent, and Webster County at 9.6-percent. McLean County came in next with 9.5-percent and only nine percent of Union County’s population contracted the virus.
