Vastwood Park, Trail of Treats drive-thru scheduled for Saturday

The annual Trail of Treats at Vastwood Park sponsored by Hancock County Fiscal Court occurs this Saturday, October 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. Hancock County Judge/Executive Assistant Sage Petrie said. In response to guidelines issued Kentucky Governor Andrew Beshear, Hancock County Fiscal Court voted Monday evening to make the event a drive-thru event.

The route starts at the top of the Beach House parking lot, and drivers can enter the parking lot from both directions at the top of the hill. Vendors will set up candy stations, and car will stop at each booth to receive candy. Trick or Treaters must remain in their vehicles. Trick or treaters can place their goodie bags out of the vehicle windows, and workers at each booth will place candy in the bags.

The route goes down the parking lot to the lower end exit, then turns right and goes down to the beach area parking spots where several more booths are set up. Vehicles can then follow the road and go up the hill and through the park to exit on U.S. 60, or turn around at the loop at the boat ramp and exit out to Park Road.

The annual Trail of Treats provides a safe trick or treating venue for kids and parents. Churches, civic organizations, schools, families and businesses are encouraged to set up booths to provide candy to the kids. Petrie said so far nine vendors contacted her at the judge’s office to set up candy stations.

To make the trail safe for both vendors and treaters, vendors must wear facemasks and gloves while handing out candy, Petrie said. In addition, all trick or treaters must also wear facemasks.
“We are trying to make it safe,” Petrie said.

If any business, organization, individual, churches, schools and families want to participate by sponsoring a booth, call Sage Petrie in the Hancock County Judge/Executive’s office. The number is 270.927.8137.
