On Monday evening the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce held a small ceremony to honor Gary Nugent, owner of GN Excavating and Trucking, as its 2020 Citizen of The Year. Hancock County Chamber of Commerce President Wade Gaynor spoke briefly about Nugent, and his impact on the community.
“We appreciate everything you do,” Gaynor said. “You bring jobs to the area.”
Nugent started his business while still in high school, and over the years he grew and developed his business into a successful endeavor. Several years ago he expanded GN Excavating to include trucking services, and today his trucks are a common sight on Hancock County roadways.
When Dal-Tile closed its doors in July, Nugent stepped in and purchased the building. He hopes to attract another endeavor to locate in the facility.
In addition to helping increase the number of businesses and employment in Hancock County, Nugent gives back to his community in a variety of ways. Gaynor listed some of the ways he gives back to Hancock County.
“I know you are involved in almost every sponsorship, every charitable case in the county,” Gaynor said. “It has not gone unnoticed.”
Nugent, his wife Ashley and their children attended the small ceremony Monday evening. After hearing Gaynor’s words of praise, the soft-spoken Nugent said a simple “Thanks” for the accolades.
