Turmeric Root

By Jennifer Wimmer

Turmeric Root has incredible health benefits. The active compound in it is Curcumin. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, antiseptic and detoxification properties. Studies have shown that it actually cleans out your arteries! Always check with your doctor and/or do plenty of research, before adding it into your diet.

Turmeric can be taken in capsule form. However, the body absorbs it more efficiently, when you eat it. You can buy ground, organic Turmeric and add it to just about any dish. Careful, it stains!

There are also some ways to make sure that you get the maximum benefit from it, such as taking it with a pinch of black pepper and also making sure to consume it along with a fat, such as: real butter, coconut milk, extra virgin olive oil, unrefined coconut oil or cashews (to name a few).  Adding these will help you absorb the Turmeric. You can make “Golden Milk” and drink a cup a day.

”Golden Milk” recipe: One cup milk (any milk: cow milk, almond milk, etc), fresh sliced Ginger Root (a few small slices), a pinch of black pepper, one heaping Teaspoon of Turmeric powder, let simmer on medium-low heat, stirring for about 5 minutes, pour into a cup (strain if necessary), add a Teaspoon of Unrefined Coconut Oil (or any fat, such as the above mentioned), Cinnamon (to taste), sweetener of your choice (Honey, Agave, Stevia, etc). Sip and enjoy.

Along with many other health benefits, this is a great preventative for colds and flu, and can also be sipped several times a day for sore throat and to shorten the length of a cold.

Here are some of the many benefits of taking Turmeric daily:

Alleviates heartburn & indigestion, improves memory, helps with joint pain, decreases risk of Heart Disease, takes out free radicals, Cancer preventative, alleviates Arthritis, Antidepressant, effective anti-acne remedy, boosts immunity and delays the aging process. Because Turmeric is such a powerful anti-inflammatory, it is considered a “Superfood” and has been used as medicine, in many different cultures for centuries.
For a topical treatment of acne: combine 1 Tablespoon of Aloe Vera with 1/4 Teaspoon of ground Turmeric. Apply this paste to problem areas for 10-15 minutes, three times a week.

As a homemade sore throat gargle: 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric, 1/2 Teaspoon Salt added to warm water.   And for a hair loss treatment: 1 Tablespoon Turmeric and 3 Teaspoons oil (Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Unrefined Coconut oil), mix together and apply to scalp.  Leave on for 30 minutes. Do this 1-3 times a month and it will strengthen the hair follicles, preventing further hair loss and causing hair to grow faster and thicker.
Be well and God bless.
