Johnson recalls colored school, segregated county; Linns seek school history

The former Lewisport Colored School still stands on Market Street on the west end of town, largely forgotten by history but not forgotten by a former student who lives next door or by the couple who currently calls it home.

The grey building at 990 Market Street stands out from the other homes nearby and the mobile homes that surround it, but many are unaware that it is perhaps the only remaining one-room school in the county, one that was specifically used during segregation.
