Alcohol suspected in crash
No one suffered injury in a suspected alcohol related accident on state Route 3543 on May 3, 2021. The accident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. five miles east of Hawesville. Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Emmick filed the accident report.

Michael L. Little, of Tell City, Ind. told Emmick that as he drove north on state Route 3543 an animal ran out in front of his 2003 Mitsubishi Montero and caused him to lose control of his vehicle. He went off the right side of the road, through a deep ditch and came to rest. An off duty officer arrived on scene first and secured the scene until Emmick arrived.

Emmick gave Little a field sobriety test and determined alcohol probably factored into the wreck. Hancock county EMS arrived on scene and drew blood for a blood test to determine if alcohol or drugs were in Little’s system at the time of the accident. The blood tests were sent to the Kentucky State Police lab for testing. Results are pending.
Little’s Montero sustained severe damage. A wrecker from Bob’s Garage removed the vehicle from the scene.

Car hits truck
A two-vehicle accident on U.S. 60 one mile east of Lewisport resulted in two vehicles being damaged, but no one suffering injury. The accident happened on May 1 at approximately 7:15 a.m. Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy BJ Burton filed the accident report.

Samuel E. Murphy, of Owensboro, and passenger Alay Ray, also of Owensboro, were headed east on U.S. 60 in a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup when a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer turning onto U.S. 60 east struck the pickup in the side. The driver of the Lancer, Jordon Rearden of Hawesville, told Burton he failed to see the pickup and pulled into the side of the truck.

The impact to the truck caused Murphy to lose control of his vehicle, go off the road and overturn in the median. The pickup sustained very severe damage. The Lancer sustained minor to moderate damage. Wreckers from Bob’s Garage removed the vehicles from the scene.
