Powers leads Hornets in 70-56 win over Trinity

Devyn Powers scored 24 points and the Hornets defeated Whitesville Trinity 70-56 during a varsity basketball game at HCHS last Thursday.
Powers and Kaleb Keown set the pace offensively for Hancock County in the opening quarter with a pair of 3’s. Powers hit from deep again in the second and Darian Clay scored two inside baskets that helped give the Hornets a 28-25 halftime advantage.
The Hornets began to pull away in the third when ever starter scored for the home team. Evan Ferry splashed from beyond the arc, while Clay, Powers, Ryan Ogle and Keown all connected from the field to give HCHS a
commanding 49-34 lead. The Hornets continued to score at a rapid pace in the fourth as they finished off the regular season with a victory.
The Hornets made 26 of 55 field goal attempts for 47.3% shooting. They were 4 of 15 from beyond the arc and 14 of 22 from the foul line.
Powers led all scorers with 24 points, while adding three rebounds, five assists and three steals. Ferry had 13 points, five boards, 10 assists, three blocks and two steals, and Keown had nine points, 10 boards, one assist, one block and one steal. Clay had eight points, 12 boards, one assist and two steals, and Ogle had eight points, six boards, three assists and one steal. Landyn Emmick had two points and two boards, and Ethan Stewart had one point. Landon Huff led Trinity with 20 points.
