COVID numbers drop in Hancock, currently 49th in state

After having the highest incidence rate of COVID-19 in the entire state two days last week, Hancock County’s rate has fallen precipitously, down to 49th in the state as of Wednesday.

According to the state’s daily report, Hancock County’s incidence rate was 45.9, which is the total of new daily cases per 100,000 population, based on the previous seven days. February 3’s number was even slightly lower than the state average of 46.03, which is a marked change from last Monday and Tuesday.

Last Monday the county was highest in incidence at 95 per 100,000, and Tuesday was even higher at 103.2. Both days the state average was around 60. An incidence rate higher than 25 turns a county red, which is the level at which schools were previously ordered to close and other restrictions were put in place.  By Dave Taylor
