Hancock 5th grade takes runner-up at Greenville

Parker Maxwell was named MVP of the Hornet 5th grade tournament in Greenville last weekend. The team placed runner-up.

The Hancock County Hornets 5th grade team placed runner-up in the Herd Classic basketball tournament held at Greenville this past weekend.

The Hornets defeated the #1 seed Illinois Crush 42-37 in a semifinal game.

“This was one of the best games I’ve ever been a part of. It was a true underdog moment,” coach Nathan Maxwell said.

The Crush had not lost a game all year. The coach said that the boys played extremely hard Sunday and that they competed and wanted the moment.

Parker Maxwell, who was MVP of the tournament, led Hancock with 14 points. Waitman Jackson scored 13, Zacky Eubanks had nine, Dallas French three, Hudson McManaway two and Tayden Duncan one.

The Hornets fell to Henderson in the championship game. Scores were not availed.

Hancock won 33-20 over Grayson County during an early game Sunday.

Jackson led with 12 points, Maxwell scored 11, Eubanks eight, Finn Hager three, French, McManaway and Brantley Chaffin all had two each.

The Hornets fell 38-35 to Muhlenberg Saturday.

Maxwell had a huge game with 23 points. Jackson scored six, Eubanks four and French two. The boys lost in overtime to Henderson County in Saturday’s early game. The final score was 31-29. Eubanks led with 13 points, Maxwell scored 10, Duncan four and French two.
