On Friday, January 19th, 2024 at around 7:48 a.m., Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Frank Howard reported that when he was at the sheriff’s office, he heard a loud crash outside, and went to investigate.

2 Vehicle Collision

On December 4th, 2023 at around 12:25 p.m., Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Hendrick reported that 3 miles east of the City of Lewisport, a 2014 Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven by Roger G. Howard, of Utica, pulled from the center crossing lane into the path of oncoming west bound traffic on Hwy 60, and into the path of Bryson T. Powers, of Lewisport, who was driving a 2012 Chevy Malibu, and struck the vehicle causing severe damage to the front end. Howard’s truck had moderate to severe damage to the passenger side. Both vehicles were towed by Bob’s Garage. No injuries were reported.

Angle Collision

On Thursday, January 11th, 2024 at around 5:34 a.m., Deputy B.J. Burton reported that 1 mile east of the City of Lewisport, Charles S. Estes, of Lewisport, was driving his 2019 Genesis G70 north on Frank Luttrell Road, and stated that he approached the stop sign and went to enter the roadway but did not see David A. English, Jr., of Rockport, IN, in his 2018 Ram 2500 pickup truck. Estes struck the passenger side door of English’s truck, and it began to roll over and struck the median. Estes was completely disabled after impact.

All airbags deployed on each vehicle. No injuries were reported. Both vehicles required a tow by Bob’s Garage. English stated he was driving east bound on US 60 West and that he noticed Estes driving into his path of travel and tried to avoid the collision but was unable to before being struck and rolling the vehicle. There was one witness, Gregory Badertscher, of Calhoun, who was traveling behind English and stated that Estes never stopped at the intersection and had pulled directly into the east bound lane and struck English.

Vehicle slid into creek off icy roadway

On Monday, January 15th, 2024 at around 5:54 a.m., Deputy Aaron Emmick reported that a 2008 Chevy Equinox driven by Christian B. Kellum, of Hawesville, was traveling on KY 271 South, 3 miles east of the City of Lewisport, with passenger, Judah G. Johnson, of Hawesville, and was going to turn onto Hilldale Road from KY 271 South when he began to slide due to icy and snow covered roads. The vehicle slid off the left side of the roadway into a creek, also striking a road sign post and bridge wing wall. The vehicle was towed due to very severe damage, by Bob’s Garage. No injuries were reported.

2 Vehicle Collision – Sideswipe Opposite Direction

On Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 at around 7:29 a.m., Deputy Aaron Emmick reported that 1.5 miles east of the City of Lewisport, a 2013 F150 Ford pickup truck driven by Thomas C. Bohannon, of Bowling Green, was traveling east on Lee Henderson Road, and encountered William S. Vargason, of Lewisport, in his 2013 1500 Ram pickup truck.

The road is narrow and was snow covered on the edges. Bohannon stated that he tried to move over as far as the he could but still struck Vargason’s mirror. Vargason stated that he also tried to move over as far as he could but could not avoid striking Bohannon’s mirror. Both vehicles had minor damage. No tow was necessary. No injuries were reported.

Single Vehicle Collision – Driver fell asleep at wheel

On Friday, January 19th, 2024 at around 7:48 a.m., Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Frank Howard reported that when he was at the sheriff’s office, he heard a loud crash outside, and went to investigate. He found that a small 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Christopher M. Garcia, of Tell City, had collided with the hand railing/concrete barrier at the Hancock County Administration Building in downtown Hawesville. Garcia told Deputy Howard that he was on his way to cash his check and fell asleep behind the wheel. His truck had very severe damage and was towed by Bob’s Garage. Garcia did not request medical assistance.
