Ella House scores 1,000th career point during 53-46 win over Tell City

Ella House scored 20 points and the Lady Hornets came from behind to defeat Tell City by a final score of 53-46 during the House Insurance Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout held at HCHS Saturday. House scored four first quarter points but the visiting Lady Marksmen won the first period 11-8. Ollie Toothman hit a “3” and Emma Hoesli led Tell City with four points.

Sophia Newby had a big second quarter for HCHS. The 8th grader converted three baskets and was 2 of 2 from the foul line, while House continued to contribute offensively. Carolina Jones chipped in four points and Layni Roberts tossed in a basket as Hancock County took a 27-24 lead.

Just before halftime House scored on a driving layup with an assist from Izzy Ross. The points were the 1,000th career points for the senior. The game was paused for a presentation and acknowledgment of the milestone accomplishment.

House led the way for Hancock in the third with two field goals and 4 of 4 shooting at the foul line. Reese Ford countered with two “and-1” opportunities and her seven third quarter points helped Tell City regain the lead (42-39).

The Lady Hornets sealed the win in the fourth with defense and solid free throw shooting. Jones splashed a “3” and Ansley House scored inside and connected on 4 of 6 foul shots down the stretch. Ella House hit 3 of 4 from the stripe and Newby was 2 of 4.

The Lady Marksmen hit just one fourth quarter shot and were 2 of 6 from the line in the fourth. Ella House led with 20 points and Newby scored 11. Jones and Ansley House put in nine pointseach, and Roberts and Allyson McCormick scored two points each.

Ford led Tell City with 13 points. Toothman scored 12.

In other Shootout games held that day; McLean County defeated Evansville Harrison 47-43 and Daviess County won 42-38 over Bullitt East.
