Varsity girls fall at Breck

The Lady Tigers of Breckinridge County pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 60-37 over the Lady
Hornet varsity at Harned Friday.

It was a fierce battle from the opening tip between the 11th District teams. Ansley House got off to a
great start as the freshman center connected on four baskets including a 3-point play during the
opening quarter.

Breck countered from long range when Elizabeth Grimes canned two 3’s and the Lady Tigers led 17-
15 at the first break.

Carolina Jones scored twice for HCHS in the second, but Grimes hit another “3” and Kayleigh
Huffines scored six points to help give the Lady Tigers a 32-23 halftime advantage.

The third quarter was evenly matched. Sophia Newby scored for points for Hancock while Ella and
Ansley House chipped in four points each. The score after three quarters was 42-31. Breck pulled away in the fourth when they went on an 18-6 run to end the contest.

Hancock County shot 34% from the field. They were 1 of 6 from beyond the arc and 10 of 17 from
the foul line. Breck County shot 51%. They made 4 of 13 from long range and 10 of 16 free throws.
Ella House recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds to go with five assists.

Ansley House had 11 points and five boards. Newby had nine points, five boards and two assists, Jones had
four points and one steal, and Layni Roberts had two points and three rebounds. Alexis Gay grabbed
three boards and Izzy Ross dished out one assist.

Grimes finished with 18 points to lead Breck County. Caroline Lucas scored 13.
