Spooks and goodies at Trail of Treats Tuesday night at Vastwood

The 21st Annual Trail of Treats at Vastwood Park will be held on Tuesday, October 31st, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The time is slightly different this year from previous years, and the change was made to allow more time for families and individuals to get home from work and school, and get ready for going to the park.

“It’s going to be what we’ve traditionally done in the past,” Judge-Executive Johnny “Chic” Roberts said. “The trail we use will be the 1.1 mile (blacktopped walking trail) around the lake.”

Map at Beach House

Executive Assistant & Fiscal Court Clerk Sage Petrie Young said she will have a large overhead map of the walking trail posted at the front of the beach house so that people handing out candy will have a designated spot. “That way we’ll hopefully spread people all along the Trail of Treats. That helps with traffic flow for the kids and also makes it more exciting as they walk around and keep coming across different booths. We usually expect about 1,000 kids. We always have a really good turnout.”

Patrons will be able to enter and exit through the Vastwood entrance on Hwy 60, as well as at the entrance on 925 Vastwood Park Rd. There is parking in front of the beach house, as well as in front of the beach area.

Details for Handing out Candy

If you or your organization would like to hand out treats, please contact Sage Young at the Judge-Executive’s Office for details on how you can participate, at 270-927-8137. Thirty local businesses have signed-up so far. Businesses from surrounding areas are welcome to hand out candy as well. “Sometimes we’ll have families and individuals also set-up to hand out candy,” Sage said, “because they want to hand out candy but may not be in an area where they get a lot of trick-or-treaters.”

Trail-of-Treats is sponsored by Hancock County Fiscal Court & HC Parks Department. Vastwood Park is located at 925 Park Road, in Hawesville, KY.
