Meserve wins cross country race for Hancock

Emmitt Meserve won the two mile cross country race for Hancock County while several other local athletes placed well during an all comers meet at Noble Park in Paducah.

Meserve won by 28 seconds over his nearest competitor. He completed the course in 11 minutes, 44 seconds.

Hancock County’s Henry Proctor placed sixth in 12:50 as 32 runners toed the line.“Emmitt had two goals; win the race and run under 11 minutes. He got one and I think he is capable of achieving the other. He didn’t have any one to push him today,” HCHS coach Wes Meserve said.

Ellen Meserve placed second for Hancock County in the girls middle school two mile race. She finished in 13:42.

Lyla DeJarnette was fourth in 15:51. Elias Meserve placed fifth in the boys one mile elementary race with a time of 6:50.

Beckham DeJarnette was seventh in seven minutes. Ninty six runners competed in the race.

Oonagh DeJarnette placed eighth in the girls elementary race. Her time was 7:19 over one mile. Young Ember DeJarnette also competed. Her time was 16.19.
