Dianna Boyd McKinney’s arraignment was Thursday, April 6th, at 9:00 a.m., with District Judge Daniel Boling presiding.
The hearing was conducted virtually, via Zoom, with McKinney remaining at Breckinridge County Detention Center, where she has been detained since Monday, April 3rd, after being arrested on charges of Assault, 1st Degree, and Tampering With Physical Evidence.
When McKinney (57) was questioned by Detective Ammon, with Kentucky State Police, Post 16 (Henderson), after investigation of the scene, he reported that she had admitted to shooting Roger Benningfield, Jr. (41) in the head, on Sunday night, April 2nd, at her home on Curtis Street, in Lewisport. Ammon also reported that she confessed to making it look like a suicide.
At the time the original charges were made, Benningfield was in critical condition at Owensboro Regional Health Hospital. He later passed away, and therefore those charges will be amended, to murder, under KRS 507020. Those will be filed early next week, after an appointment with Detective Ammon.
Her bond was originally set for $57,000 cash. That has now also been amended to $100,000 cash.
The arraignment began with the reading of McKinney’s rights. A plea of not-guilty was submitted by Judge Boling on McKinney’s behalf.
The preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, April 14th at 9:00 a.m. McKinney stated she has no present source of income, and owns no property other than her camper, and was appointed a public attorney.
