Lady Hornets win big on spring break trip to Florida

Lily Roberts and Gracie Gaynor hit home runs and the Lady Hornets won their fifth game in a row when they defeated Caverna 15-2 at Ft. Walton Beach, Florida Monday.
Roberts blasted a 2-run homer in the first inning and Gaynor followed a short time later with a 3-run bomb. Hancock County added runs in the second, fourth and fifth frames to close out their opponent via run rule. Caverna’s two runs both came in the fifth.
Roberts, Gaynor and Jordyn Waltrip combined to allow just one hit. Roberts had seven Ks in three innings work and Gaynor struck out the side during her only frame on the mound. Waltrip allowed two runs (one earned) with two walks. Gaynor gave up the hit.
Roberts was 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI, and Emmalynn Higdon was 2 for 3. Gaynor was 1 for 2 with three RBI. Waltrip was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBI, Kylie Westerfield was 1 for 2 and Layni Roberts was 1 for 3.
Russell County
It was another easy win for the Lady Hornets when they won 11-1 over Russell County at Ft. Walton Beach Sunday. The contest was tied at 1-1 through four innings when Hancock County exploded offensively. The girls plated five runs in each of the following two frames to secure the victory.
Breze Riley continued her run at the plate by going 3 for 4 with a double and one RBI. Ella Staples (2 for 4) had a triple and knocked in three runs and Ella House (1 for 4) had a triple and two RBI for the winners. Westerfield was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, Baylee Estes and Higdon both went 1 for 4. Ava Riggs and Waltrip scored two runs each.
Roberts got the win on the hill. She allowed one run on three hits, with 14 Ks and no walks in six innings.Ohio County Raylee Higdon smacked a home run and Lily Roberts pitched a 2-hitter during a 12-0 win at Ohio County last Thursday.
Estes stole home in the first and the party was just beginning. Hancock County added two more runs in the frame and later led 5-0 after a double by Emmalynn Higdon in the third. Raylee Higdon’s center field homer came on a 3-2 count in the sixth. Four more ladies crossed home plate before the inning concluded. Lily Roberts got the win. She allowed no runs on two hits, with 14 Ks and three walks over six frames.

Woodford County
Woodford County scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to win 3-2 over Hancock County during another game played at Ft. Walton Beach Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets held a 1-0 lead until the Lady Hornets tied the score with a run in the fourth. Staples led off the inning with a triple to right field. Waltrip came in as a courtesy runner and later tagged up and scored on a fly ball hit by Lily Roberts.
Woodford went back in front 2-1 in the sixth on a lead off home run, but Hancock tied the score again in the seventh when Estes singled and scored on a hit by Staples.
Sophia Gannon ended the game with a walk-off, RBI double in the home half of the seventh. Roberts allowed three runs on five hits, with 10 Ks and four walks over 6.2 innings. Kristyn Murphy got the win for Woodford.
Estes was 3 for 4 at the plate, Lily Roberts was 2 for 3 with one RBI, Staples was 2 for 4 with one RBI, Westerfield, Emmalynn Higdon and Layni Roberts all went 1 for 3.
