HCHS Lady Hornets splash 10 triples on “Senior Night”

The Lady Hornets took charge from the get-go and won by a final score of 55-33 over Grayson County on Senior Night at HCHS Friday. Hancock County hit 10 3-point baskets for the game.
Lily Roberts and Bailey Poole lit up the gym from beyond the arc in the first quarter. Roberts knocked down three triples and Poole hit twice from downtown to lead Hancock County to a 20-8 advantage.

Ella House scored three times for HCHS during the second period while Emma Morris hit a “3”. Roberts added another bomb and the Lady Hornet defense limited the visitors to just seven second quarter points. The result was a comfortable 35-15 lead for the home team.

The third frame was a defensive battle as both teams put up just five points. Poole’s third triple of the game highlighted the quarter. Three more long range baskets hit the mark during another strong fourth quarter run for Hancock County. Roberts, Poole and Kendra Keown all splashed 3’s as the Lady Hornets pulled away to win by 22 points.

Hancock County made 20 of 45 field goal attempts for 44.4% shooting. The girls were 4 of 11 from the foul line.  Grayson County shot 29% from the field and were 4 of 8 from the stripe.

Roberts finished with 19 points, including five 3’s, to lead all scorers. She added eight rebounds. Poole had four 3’s and 14 points, with three boards, and House had 11 points and five boards. Emma Morris had three points and four boards, Keown had three points and three boards, Sophia Newby had two points and two boards, Carolina Jones had two points, Alexis Gay had one point and one board, and Ansley House had two boards.
