New 3D Mammography Equipment

TELL CITY, IN – New 3D Mammography equipment has been installed at Perry County Memorial Hospital, generously funded by the PCMH Foundation.

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT)—or 3D mammography—gives radiologists a clearer view of breast tissue as compared to the traditional 2D mammograms. This new technology has rapidly become an essential imaging tool that enhances a doctor’s ability to detect early breast cancer. With breast cancer, earlier detection leads to earlier treatment, less aggressive treatment options and better outcomes.

With the use of 3D mammography, radiologists can view breast images in “slices,” which essentially allows them to see straight through tissue layers and makes it less likely they’ll miss an early sign of cancer. Unlike 2D mammograms, the 3D technology also makes it easier for radiologists to detect breast cancer that is masked by overlapping tissue.

“We are thrilled to continue to expand our services to the communities we serve. Patients can now receive advanced 3D mammography services in addition to a range of specialty care services in one location for patient convenience. When you choose PCMH for Mammography screenings, you’re getting the most advanced technology available in the area for early detection of breast cancer,” said Brian Herwig, CEO.

The Perry County Memorial Hospital Foundation, Inc. exists to support PCMH’s mission of providing quality Healthcare to our community now and for future generations. The Foundation raises funds which are directly donated back to PCMH for purchase of equipment and renovations. Two large fundraising events are held annually.

The Gala will be held Saturday, February 18 at the Schergens Center. For Gala tickets or more information, please contact Courtney Braun at 812-547-0170.
