Cheerleaders win competition at All “A” state tourney

The Hancock County High School Cheer Team placed first at the All “A” Classic State Basketball Tournament last weekend. The event was held at McBrayer Arena on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.

When the Lady Hornets earned their way to the state tournament the cheer team was able to participate in the In-Game Cheer Competition. Teams were judged on spirit and execution from the time the team runs out for warm-ups until end of game along with halftime routine.

The Hancock County cheerleaders placed first, ahead of Leslie County and Monroe County during the girls tournament. Harlan, Cumberland County and Owen County placed first through third at the boys tournament.

“This trophy really represents the Lady Hornets basketball team, the fans, student section and the band because without them it wouldn’t have been possible,” HCHS cheer coach Aimee Estes said. “Our community is full of Hornet pride!”

Members of the HCHS Cheer Team are: Addi Ferry, Baylee Estes, Lily Adkins, Haylee Lanum, Hayden Emmick, Emily McCormick, Madison McManaway, Brianna Nolan, Allie Noles, Rashie Patel, Ella Powers, Alaina Rudd, Rachel Shearn, Olivia Vessels, Abby Walz, Bianca Woods, Chelsie Westbury, Chloe White and Jaelynn Waltrip.
